We are looking to welcome an Application Packaging Engineer Team Lead to our Foreign Affairs team. The team is responsible for the development, unit test, maintenance and release of software packages.


The Foreign Affairs Practice at Buchanan & Edwards is a trusted advisor to our government customer whom we have proudly served for over 19 years.


The Team Lead will be responsible for the planning, engineering, releases and maintenance of our client's customized application packages for commercial products and internal desktop systems consisting of Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 2008 R2, and Windows 2012 R2. In this role you will: lead customer facing meetings; develop the processes and provide engineering services in support of application packaging and patching, project plans, SOPs, monthly status reports, diagrams, workflows, and presentations; provide project and client/customer direction on deliverables related to the execution of package troubleshooting, integration and workflow. The successful candidate is skilled at verbal and written communications for both technical and non-technical audiences and will understand how to leverage connectivity with client staff to drive agility and speed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee and maintain team efforts with Application Software Deployment SCCM 2007/2012
  • Statements of Work interpretation, client/customer direction on deliverables
  • Assist in reporting and release planning
  • Leverage connectivity with client staff to drive agility and speed
  • Application Packaging cycle testing /Pilot/ UAT /Prod
  • Collaborate with application package requestor to determine application requirements
  • Creating Custom Actions for Install, Repair, Uninstall actions, and License information
  • Recommend products that could be standardized and Reviewing Windows 7 and Windows 10 compatibility
  • Perform software installation scripting, packaging, testing application per client requirements
  • Packaging application according to specs and diagnosing software installation errors & performing corrective actions
  • Creating, testing and maintaining software packages for our enterprise environment
  • Compiling final application package testing and package signoff


Required Qualifications:


  • Active Interim Secret Clearance
  • At least 8 years of experience in the IT industry
  • At least 4 years' experience creating installers / software packages / Scripting
  • At least 5 years' experience with VMware management and troubleshooting of Virtual machines, including knowledge of VMware vCenter and Microsoft VMware vCenter and Workstation
  • Strong experience with creation of some type of packages: MSI, EXE, Installable
  • Experience in Application Scripting, Packaging/ Re-packaging, script customizations, Microsoft Installer (MSI) technology and Application Distribution technologies which includes experience in the use of Install Shield, PowerShell, VB Script, Batch script, and Software Distribution system experience including SCCM 2012/2007
  • Understand and apply diverse software engineering principles and best practices in areas of software installers.
  • Effective analytical, planning, organizational, problem determination and resolution process skills
  • Ability to execute the problem determination and resolution process effectively
  • Ability to differentiate and create both 32bit & 64bit application packages
  • Windows 10 and Windows 7 expertise with full knowledge of OS operations, Registry, DLL's, troubleshooting

Desired Qualifications

  • Assist in constructing framework to build a motivated team and create a compelling workplace through leading by example, coaching by implementing keystone habits, mentoring and skills development from helping team communicate across department issues.
  • Proficient in the use of PC applications used to create documentation for project management functions and documentation used to provide status requirements and recommendations to management
  • Deployment of packages to Windows 7/Win 10 environments
  • Experience with Application Virtualization (APP-V, VMware)
  • Knowledge of 32-bit and 64-bit application packaging is required along with strong application troubleshooting skills and knowledge of Microsoft App-V is desirable
  • Working experience with Application Model in MS Configuration Manager 2012
